1. A new dawn opens for all to bring Dignity in death through a Living Will, authorized by the Honourable Supreme Court Order on Euthanasia of 2018. The revised, simplified Advance Medical Directives of 24/1/2023 bring a new course of action in Living Wills.
2. This is a brief to help you spread this news among all your friends & relatives.
3. Objectives: Today, very few people are aware of Living Wills. We intend to start a long-term campaign in stages and help relieve everyone from worries of old age and suffering on account of terminal illness.
4. We propose to start this program in stages in all cities, from 2024. Citizens for Dignity is an Association registered under no. 24/2023 as a Non-Profit Organization under the Commissioner of Charities, Mumbai.

It was almost 6 years ago that CDD was conceived as a result of some friends/relatives succumbing to dementia an unconscious vegetative condition with no hope for recovery. The process got delayed on account of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to improve the procedure of Living Will. It was in January 2023 that the Hons. Supreme Court issued simplified Medical Directives and soon after we started the formalities with the Commissioner of Charities and other agencies including tax authorities. These have now been completed. We pay our homage to the Late Mr. N.R. Prabhu and the late Mr. U.R. Acharya through these pages. They initiated us in this greatly indeed public service.

Our CDD is a registered public trust being a non-profitable Charitable Organisation, it is exempted under Income Tax Sec 80G. All donations will be tax-free and will help to restore the dignity in the death of many. With the new relaxation on terms for Living Will/ Advance Medical Directives by the Supreme Court in its Jan 24, 2023 order the procedure has been simplified. Once a person starts losing Memory and has come to a vegetative stage, there is no way that he/she can convey a decision to terminate his/her life. Then it comes under the purview of euthanasia (Also known as Mercy Killing).

The procedure and rules are already in force and can be completed subject to the time limitations and constraints laid down by the Supreme Court. Under the procedure, an adult under normal health can make a Will regarding one’s own choice of advance decision to terminate his/ her own life under strict conditions to be followed by an authorized person, such as a Will can be issued and filed with the custodian.
